Shame & Loneliness

Feeling shame, loneliness, or a lack of belonging can be isolating and painful. I know from personal experience what it feels like to struggle with these emotions, to question your worth, to feel unseen, or to wonder if you truly belong. I believe these experiences deserve care, understanding, and a compassionate space to explore.

Therapy provides a safe place where you can bring your feelings as they are, without judgment, and begin to understand and accept yourself more fully.

Exploring Shame and Belonging

  • How shame shows up in thoughts, feelings, and behaviours

  • Experiences of loneliness or disconnection from self or others

  • Ways societal, cultural, or familial expectations may impact feelings of belonging

  • How to reconnect with your values, strengths, and authentic self

I support you to notice patterns of self-criticism, self-isolation, or people-pleasing, and explore how these behaviours may have been protective at some point, while no longer serving them in the present.

Building Connection and Self-Compassion

I invite clients to develop a deeper sense of connection to themselves and to others by:

  • Exploring what belonging means personally for you

  • Noticing moments of self-judgment and responding with compassion

  • Reconnecting with communities or relationships that feel safe and supportive

  • Building self-acceptance and inner resilience

I aim to create a space where you can experience being seen, heard, and valued, and where shame and loneliness can be acknowledged and gradually softened through empathy, reflection, and human connection.

My Experience with Shame and Loneliness

I have experienced moments of shame, isolation, and not feeling like I belonged. These experiences have shaped how I work with clients, with empathy, curiosity, and patience. I understand the impact of feeling “less than,” being disconnected from others, or striving to meet expectations that don’t align with your true self.

Through this, I have learned the importance of connection, authenticity, and compassion, both for myself and for the people I work with.

How Therapy May Help

I work alongside you to:

  • Explore and understand feelings of shame and isolation

  • Notice patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour with curiosity and empathy

  • Reconnect with your values, strengths, and authentic self

  • Build resilience, self-compassion, and a sense of belonging

  • Develop ways to create safe and supportive connections in life

I aim to create a space where you are seen, heard, and valued, and where the journey toward belonging and self-compassion can be explored safely and at your own pace.
